I
am annoyed today with having 2 phone calls from cash services in regards
to EBD bags being 1 or 2 kg's overweight. If the bank is not going to
provide branches with scales, how are we to determine the correct weight
of each bag if Brinks are going to be so pedantic about it. Being at a
large branch with a lot of coin banking, it makes it awkward to determine
the weight as well as having enough room in the brinks safe to hold a
large number of bags. What has frustrated me the most is the fact that
Cash Services have advised if it happens again our bags will not be
collected. If this is the case then they need to provide us with a means
of being able to determine the weight.

As a general rule
Cash Services only contact branches as a courtesy, and this is
predominantly to ensure that the branch is not disadvantaged in the future
(ie Brinks crew decide not to collect the Transit bags) and as a result
the branch is instructed to count the EBD bags themselves.
With
respect to your below comment, I must re-iterate the current policy which
clearly defines the weight limitations for both EBD bags and Transit Bags,
and this policy has been created to ensure that we comply with the OH
& S obligations, for both our staff and the Brinks road crews. Not to
mention the contractural arrangements in place between ourselves and
Brinks, hench the importance of compliance.
The weight limitations
are best described as:
- EBD Bag - Maximum weight of the bag is described as $100 in silver
coins, or $300 in gold coins. This restriction is clearly marked on the
front of the EBD bags. Any evidence of non-compliance should be
addressed by the Relationship Manager.
- Transit Bag - Maximum weight of transit bag is defined in GEX 124
as, equivalent to three calico bags of $0.50 coins, or a total amount of
cash less than $200,000. Additionally a Transit bag should not contain
more than 15 EBD bags.
I am sure you will agree that the above
definitions provide sufficient clarification.
In summary I
understand that 6-7 Transit bags despatched by your branch on the day in
question were in excess of the above weight restrictions, and the non -
compliant aspect was escalated by the Brinks crew to Cash Services, who in
turn contacted your branch to explain the importance of ensuring the
procedural compliance.
Please feel free to contact me should you
require further assistance and/or clarification.
